Myths and Facts about Israel?

How many myths and/or facts about the history of Israel can you think of?

I ask because I am writing a speech that has to do with the topic "Myths and Facts about Israel's history." I only know of a few myths and was looking for help with more.

Here's an example of what I'm looking for:

Myth: Israel kicked the Palestinians out during the early war years

Fact: The surrounding Arab countries told the Palestinians to leave, saying that they could return when they'd pushed the Jews into the sea

Myth: Israel is an Imperial State

Fact: Most Jews who came in the 19th and 20th centuries came to Israel to escape czarist Russia or anti-Semitic government of Poland, Lithuania and France. These people wanted nothing to do with their former European nations. Martin Buber, a strong supporter of Palestinian rights wrote in 1939, “ Our settlers do not come here as do the colonists from Occident, to have native do their work for them; they themselves set their shoulders to the plow and they spend their strength and their blood to make the land fruitful.” Furthermore, there has been a Jewish presence in the land for the past 3,000 years since the Jews returned to Israel after leaving Egypt.

    Myth: Jews displaced Palestinians

Fact: The first Aliyah (Jewish return to Israel) by the Europeans in 1880’s immigrated to the land that was vastly under populated and the land was purchased from absentee lords and real estate speculators. According to A. Druyanov a statician of 1920’s Palestine who was hired by the British to do a Palestinian survey concluded in his report, “when Jewish settlement of Rishon L’tzion was established by 40 Jewish families in 1882 attracted 400 Arab families many of which were Bedouin and Egyptian who were attracted by the jobs available by the Jewish immigrants and cultivation of the land and formed a new village on the site of a forsaken ruin.

The number of Muslims grew drastically after Jewish settlements blossomed not just because of the newly cultivated lands, but because Jewish presence improved healthcare, cut infant mortality rate and expanded adult expectancy. So, Displaced was something that they were not.

Myth: Zionism was the plot to colonize Israel

Myth: According to Noam Chomsky, a self-hating and anti-Zionist Jew; may his name be forever erased from the Jewish tongues, mentions in his lecture at Harvard university, “the 60,000 Jews who lived in Palestine at the end of Second aliyah (1904-1914) were overwhelmingly anti-Zionist and their decedents still are unanimously anti-Zionist or hold that view.” Though I hate Chomsky for his anti-Jewish stance, he is right on the target. Most of the early European immigrants were divided into three camps Hassidic camps such as Satmar and the Naturei Carta (their disdents still do not serve in the Israeli army and refuse to speak Hebrew), the communists/socialist camps (who were anti-religious and were coming to Israel to avoid anti-Semitism and nothing else) and the nationalist camp the minority of them (who were Zionistic).

Myth: Israel ahs and always will be the aggressor

Fact: The Arabs are the aggressors in al the conflict between them and Israel. Everyday Israel’s neighbors declare eradication of Israel. Mothers proudly solute their children who die killing the Jews. Suicide bombing and tall the wars are glorified in the Arab World as an act of passage. One Muslim mullas award 72 virgins to those brave lads that kill the Jews.

    Myth Palestinians want Peace

Arab terrorists have killed 864 Israelis and wounded more than 14,000 others since they launched the Oslo War, also known as the Second Intifada, in October 2000. The number of terrorism fatalities represents half of the 1,635 citizens who died in terrorist attacks since the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. The statistics were reported Thursday by the National Insurance Institute (Bituach Leumi) in a press release ahead of Memorial Day, which falls on Monday.

And this can go on and all.

Let me suggest to you a good book called, The Case for Israel by Alan Dershowitz

Myths and Fact a Guide to Israeli Conflict, by Mitchell Bard

Right to Exist: A Moral Defense of Israeli Wars by Yaacov Losovitz

This is a good website to checkout,

Israel declared its independence in 1948,

The UN General Assembly approved the 1947 UN Partition Plan dividing the territory into two states, with the Jewish area consisting of roughly 55% of the land, and the Arab area consisting of roughly 45%. Ironically, Jerusalem was to be designated as an international region administered by the UN to avoid conflict over its status.

36.5% of its exports are to the US.

In gold reserves it has only 28B

They have compulsory military service (for Jews, Druzes) and voluntary (Christians, Muslims, Circassians).

Their military is made up of 53,760 males and 51293 females.

Their debt is quite low ($81B) thanks to America who keeps funding them.

5% of its population can't read or write.

there are 242 Israeli settlements and civilian land use sites in the West Bank.

  • Not many, since it is ALL WRITTEN DOWN.

In case anyone didn't understand what I am saying, the history of Israel is not in dispute because we have all the records about the development of Israel available. People who make up stories-like the Israelies stole the land from the palestinians (hardee har har: they literally BOUGHT IT) have no way to verify what they are saying because history will not back them up.

I am not convinced that repaeating anti-Israel myths would be helpful; they just might get the innocent to believe them. But facts are of course useful. The Arabs have roiled the world for decades with their furious protest that their land has been "stolen" from them. One might take seriously such a statement if it came from a pacifist people such as the Tibetans, who had quietly inhabited their land for ages before it was seized by the Communist Chinese in 1950. The claim is laughable coming from the Arabs, who in the early Middle Ages conquered and reduced to slavery and penury ancient peoples and civilizations stretching from the borders of Persia to the Atlantic; who in 1947 rejected an Arab state in Palestine alongside a Jewish state and sought to obliterate the nascent Jewish state; who never called for a distinct Palestinian Arab state until the creation of the terrorist PLO in 1964sixteen years after the founding of the state of Israel; and who to this moment continue to seek Israel's destruction, an object that would be enormously advanced by the creation of the Arab state they demand. The Arab claim to sovereign rights west of the Jordan is only humored today because of a fatal combination of world need for Arab oil, leftist Political Correctness that has cast the Israelis as "oppressors," and, of course, good old Jew-hatred. "There is no such country as Palestine. 'Palestine' is a term the Zionists invented. There is no Palestine in the Bible. Our country was for centuries part of Syria. 'Palestine' is alien to us. It is the Zionists who introduced it". - Auni Bey Abdul-Hadi, Syrian Arab leader to British Peel Commission, 1937 - "There is no such thing as Palestine in history, absolutely not". - Professor Philip Hitti, Arab historian, 1946 - "It is common knowledge that Palestine is nothing but Southern Syria". - Representative of Saudi Arabia at the United Nations, 1956 -
