Do black people still blame white people for slavery?

I'm sorry

For something I didn't do

Lynched somebody

But I don't know who

You blame me for slavery

A hundred years before I was born

Guilty of being white

I'm a convict

Of a racist crime

I've only served

19 years of my time

Guilty of being white

Update:

To the people calling me a racist:

rac·ism /ˈreɪsɪzəm/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[rey-siz-uhm] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation

–noun 1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.

2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.

3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races

This is one reason people get so pissed. Certain black people don't like white people saying anything about them. They throw the racist remark out. Nothing I have said was racist.

Bernie thanks for addressing the issue. But I think it goes deeper than blame. I think Blacks don't blame whites for slavery anymore we blame for the injustices that still take place. Like Jena 6. I happen to date a White man and we get more stares and more comments than when I dated a person who was of the same race. I don't blame him for slavery I thank him for it because if it never happen I would have never met him.

Maybe it has something to do with the way slaves were treated? How about like animals? Would you like it if another race decided that they were the superior race and then beat you around pretty much for no reason. Living like we do today I dont really think you would. I mean what don't you understand about slavery wether black or any other ethnicity it's not right. And during those times a lot of people did not have a choice some were captured or sold. Basically it has a lot more to do with white people excepting cheap labor. Do some research on slavery. Try learning about what happened to all the minority races. There is something common among all of the (minority) races that endured slavery. I hope you figure it out.

I kinda get the feeling that alot of people do not want to talk aout this. if you do read everyones input you would see with your own eyes the racist remarks between the boths. I am white and all my life i was told you dont mix. i am 27 now i have 4 children 1 that of those 4 children is really my step daughter, I have raised her for 11 years. Her real mom has 2 mixed daughters and 1 son. We do live in community where both sides are racist. I just think that this has to do with people let other people tell them how to feel. ONE day people need to grow up and realize that it is not a crime to think for yourself.

No, but I think that there are many other things that whites are blamed for.

Looking back, it was not really all that long ago when open discrimination was not only overlooked, but actually encouraged. Jim Crow laws prevented blacks from doing many of the things that whites were able to do. This was in the 1960s.....not that long ago when you think about it.

Laws prevented blacks from the same opportunities in education and jobs than whites....that has caused blacks to have a higher level of poverty, split families and lower education levels (as a race) than whites.......the black race does not want this......it is much more than just about slavery. It is about equal opportunity.....today. However, past discrimination has alienated many from the black race....just as native americans were placed in reservations, many blacks were put in projects to accept whatever is given to them.....they become a product of their environment, some escape, many don't......i think that we, as a white race have to accept some blame.

Yes, there are now many rules that try to correct the social injustices that whites imposed on blacks....equal opportunity and affirmative action are examples of these rules, and they should be followed to overcome the unfair treatment throughout the years. "you cant take a man who has been hobbled, and unable to exercise for many years and expect him to compete fairly in a race" .... the race is over before it even begins.

Being only 19, it is hard to remember the images of MLK and the civil rights movements of the 1960s.......if you could remember that....I don't think you would feel guilty of being white.....maybe ashamed.

The concept of holding today's White Americans responsible for the terrible atrocities of some white people over a hundred years ago seems ridiculous.

I also find it very ironic that so many black people are so proud to claim the ancient Egyptians as their black ancestors, but seem to forget that they had white slaves for 1000 years.

If White People can forgive, Black People should too. Let's just all forgive, forget, treat each other with respect and along.

    Haana R,

It is very audacious of you to call the Jena 6 an act of racism against blacks. You obviously only got Jesse Jackson and Al sharptons side of the story and evaded seeking any actual truth.

Personally, I find it completely racist for any person to say statements that involve whites committing injustices towards blacks unless they are citing a specific case. Otherwise, YOU are the source of racism by generalizing against an entire race. Isn't that exactly what you feel is unfair to blacks???

It could be why racism still exist today. So yes, some black people do still blame some white people on slavery sometimes.

racist is everywhere. White people gets blame for black's slavery. Muslim people gets blame for being a terriorist. Black people are known to be gangsters and thugs. Mexicans are known to spread HIV's with experiments. So it's just people's opinion of other's and their experience. Everywhere is racism.

But call me a racist because I think white people have it easy life than the rest who gets deal with racist a lot and they don't get jobs for that.

They blame white people for everything. Diasgree with them and you are racist. Doesn't work the other way around. Some of the worst racists are blacks.

You accuse people of blaming you for what your forefathers did, but you turn around and stereotype people. You can't have it both ways. Maybe people would stop accusing you if you stop acting racist toward other people.
