Somebody once said that a Jury was 12 people who were there to decide which side had the best Lawyer.
What it means is that contest is decided by those who can best present their case,
Or in the case of politics, which side is better at making the other side look bad. So we see a lot of negative smears against the candidates, making them look bad. The Republicans, led by Karl Rove and his ilk, are the best at the repetition of "the big lie", and making the voters believe it.
But there's more to it than that.
During the last Presidential election Mr. Bush had Diebold on his side. That company's president was a friend, supporter and benefactor of the Republicans and their candidates.
The Diebold company makes the hardware that counts the votes. Their president "guaranteed" that Bush would win. He could come right out and say it, because it was true and who was going to hurt him? No one.
In the election of 2000, Mr. Bush won because the Secretary of State of Florida, who was responsible for counting the votes ignored a large amount of votes for Democrats. When they went to the Supreme Court challenging the outcome of the election, the Supreme Court Judges, most of whom were Republicans and appointed by Republicans, voted in favor of...guess who? REPUBLICANS!
So in most cases nowadays, the honest politician doesn't have a chance. The people in power can manipulate the election and it is they who decide the winner.
Joesph Stalin is alleged to have said, "It is not important who votes, it is important who counts the votes".
There is no genetic predisposition involved.
