No--Conservative Christian hypocrisy did.
In the 1950's, it was all about appearances. Everybody wanted to appear that they had the perfect life--the husband going to work everyday, coming home to the perfect wife, 2 kids, the dog, and the house, like Leave it to Beaver.
In reality, dad was running around with another woman, devaluing his wife, treating her like dirt, but it was all about appearances. Mom, dad and kids were in church every week, and family values (or appearances of such) were aplenty.
In the 1960's, the children of those families got fed up with the 2-faced nature of the way dad treated mom, and rebelled. The sexual escapades that were **hidden** in the 1950's were openly celebrated in the 60's.
The 60's were a revolt against the 2-faced nature of the 50's.
Yet all Conservatives want to go back to the 50's, because they were an ideal time.
Maybe that's because they want to be able to get credit for "looking righteous," but living like the devil all the time. And they could feel better about condemning "liberals" for what they do, because again, it's all about appearances for conservatives.
