What are some good sad/meaninful songs by female artists?

Question

I would like to know songs with deep meaning, like issues such as rape, abortion, suicide, gay/lesbian rights, politics, by female artists.

I also want to know sad songs, that are very depressing, and not JUST about love, or a breakup. REAL ISSUES, by a female singer.

For a sad song, I really like Autumn's Monologue by From Autumn To Ashes... it's about a relationship, but her voice is really different than most and it's one of my favorite sad female songs.
