My sleep problems started when I was your age, I don't have diabetes but I have hypoglycemia. I was diagnosed at 13. Problems with your blood sugar can definitely cause depressive symptoms and one of the symptoms of depression is insomnia. So make sure you are eating well and taking your vitamins. Exercise is great for keeping depression at bay and YES it will help you sleep! So get more exercise during the day. Make sure you stay away from caffeine, I was addicted to it, had to have my Dr Pepper! lol
Tips for getting to sleep:
1.) A fan! White noise helps some people relax and get to sleep. My mother bought me a box fan when I was 13 and now I can't sleep without one.
2.) Breathing exercises. Very slowly take one deep breath in counting to 6 then very slowly breath out as far as you can counting to 8. Do this three times then at the last breath hold it in for as long as you can, then very slowly, let it out.
3.) A hot bath, the hot water will lower your blood pressure making you feel relaxed and sleepy
4.) Tea, drink chamomile, sleepy time, or tension tamer tea these work for me. Some people drink warm milk.
5.) Tylenol or Ibuprophin. sometimes you have muscle pains and aches that you don't even realize you are having and the medicine will help you relax your muscles so you can fall asleep.
6.) Stay away from caffeine, especailly after 12 noon
7.) Eat right, follow your doctor orders
