Why does your penis swell up with blood when you get an erection?

Recently I have been interested in why something happens and how it works. So why does the penis fill with blood, why doesn't start out as a regular bone ect? How does it work?

Filling it with blood is more efficient than having a bone in there. The bone would get in the way if it was out all the time, and if it was inside and went outside it would take up much needed space inside. Filling it with blood probably also makes it more sensitive.

Your penis isn't a bone, its a giant vein comprised with blood vessels. As blood starts flowing down there, it expands.

it,s just the way we were made i guess. the penis is,nt a bone. it,s something like a big blood vessel and when you get excited the blood flows through it and makes it bigger.
