OKAY THIS IS REALLY LONG I KNOW NO ONE LIKES TO READ OBNOXIOUSLY LONG ANSWERS BUT I WORKED REALLY HARD ON THIS AND GAVE TO SOME GOOD TIPS, IMO. SO PLEASE BEAR WITH ME UNTIL THE END! :)
with high ceilings you'll want a warm color, to make the room seem more inviting and cozy. try yellow, orange, red... whatever you like. if you aren't a big fan of those colors, use complimentaries (colors opposite each other on the color wheel) like use an accent wall of yellow and paint the rest purple. something like that.
pick several themes of what you like to do (beads, art, singer, sport), and incorporate it into your room. and don't hide away instruments. lay them down on you bed to display them or prop them up against an otherwise boring piece of furniture.
create a little hangout area with your couches and chairs. add some nice rugs, pretty lamps, and hang up art and posters (maybe even beads?), to personalize it.
you want to be happy alone and with your friends. have a big chalkboard or whiteboard (you can use chalkboard paint), and scribble away ideas when you want! hang up a cork board and post things on it that describe your personality.
get a hot lava lamp, draw a sun, tye dye a bedspread and pillows, hang up some curtains- decorate a mirror with a pretty frame that you make and then have hooks next to it for jewelry, make your room the ultimate space!
ps. the most ultra-important, awesomely cool amazing thing you can do to your room that will make it the best possible space is to make it YOU. everyone will love it if it shows off your personality. people can kinda tell what a person is like from their room. for instance, i went into one of my friends rooms for the first times. i noticed long shelves on her walls lined with all sorts of cool things from awesome stuffed animals to souvenirs to books to other priceless "junk". there was pokemon stuff everywhere and a pretty antique desk against her nice blue glossy walls. i knew she loved to hoard her precious stuff and loved pokemon and stuffed animals. another friend, i could tell loved books, cats and purple. her bedroom had purple garlands, bedspreads and lamps, and a cat clock, plus several cat miniature wooden, metal, and furry alike statues lined up against her wall. in my other friends bedroom, it feels like you're underwater, because of the colors and posters. you know she loves beads, because her room displays them everywhere. little things like this show off a persons personality and that is what makes their room special.
sorry this is really long! :)
me, me, and ME!
