The saying is about admitting defeat, when you realise that you are not able to stop something. And, on top of admitting defeat, it means that you will now work WITH your former "enemy" (even though this means going against your original opinions).

    An example:

A girl who favours rock music is surrounded by friends who favour pop music. She attempts to convert her friends to rock, but they are adamant that they want to listen to pop. In order to keep the peace, the girl surrenders and agrees to listen to pop music with her friends (even though this is not her first preference).

Basically exactly what it says. If you can't win the battle, join the winning side.

Say someone's doing something that you don't want to go along with and you're trying to talk them out of it and they refuse to give in. If you were to follow that saying, you would just go along with them in the end instead of trying to win the fight

Means that your friends washed up and you shouldn't listen to them because they don't have it anymore, plain and simple. If you're tough enough for some time your adversaries will apply this very principle and join you lol.

  • It means that if you are not able to defeat them, don't fight against them. Rather, work with them.

For example, if you can't stop your kids from playing computer games instead of doing their grammar exercises, get educational CDs with games which incorporates English grammar, & install them into the computer. That way, they will learn grammar as they enjoy their games.

If your friends are playing basketball, and you don't like basketall, you try to get them to stop. If you can't get them to stop (beat them) you caould just try to play basketball with them (join them) Basketball is just an example. You don't really beat up them, you would try to get them to stop something that you daon't like. Then, you figure why not, and join them.

It means that if u can't defeat your opposing party by what you want, then join them and make them do what you want.
