DISAGREE! I love Saving Prive Ryan and I also adore Apocalypse Now, but they're not the best war movies.

Best war movie in my opinion? This sounds stupid but I fully believe that INGLORIOUS BASTERDS is the best. I'm sick of cliched war movies, and war movies that are too depressing or too boring with flat characters who just randomly die. Inglorious Basterds is awesome because it throws away all the cliches and its pure WWII fantasy. Hell, brad pitt has a freaking southern accent... and then there's the BEAR JEW!!! What an awesome flick.

I think the first 20 minutes of Saving Private Ryan (the whole portrait of the invasion of Normandy) are brilliant. Such a visceral account of a battle. The rest of the film doesn´t live up to its great opening.

I think The Thin Red Line (by Terrence Malick) is a superior film. But this is just my opinion. And they`re 2 very different films. Saving Private Ryan is a bleak portrait of the war, The thin red line is pure poetry in film.

I saw Apocalypse Now for the first time two days ago, after reading on this board that those who didn`t saw the film are incomplete human beings. The user was kinda right. I`m still mesmerized. What a film.

Agree. Saving Private Ryan was the most realistic movie so far.

BA: I would pick Saving Private Ryan as a better war movie. But as an overall movie, I'll go with Apocalypse Now.

Not just the best war movie since Apocalypse Now I think its the best war movie of all time. Its a top 10 movie of mine.

Disagree. While I though that Saving Private Ryan was an excellent war movie, it's not the best that I have seen. Das Boot, in my opinion is a better war movie than Saving Private Ryan.

Behind Enemy Lines, Black Hawk Down, Thin Red Line are some of the better movies I've seen compared to Saving Private Ryan.

Saving Private Ryan was a good movie, but for a movie based in wartime I would choose Schindler's List as the best. For a movie actually about war, I would choose The Hurt Locker.

Although Saving Private Ryan is a great movie, it's not based on a real event. And for that reason, it's not the best. I prefer Midway as the all time great War moviem

Full Metal Jacket is the best war movie with private Ryan being a close second. Apocalypse Now is fantastic but for my money one of the other two.

Buy: First scene of Private Ryan is the best scene. I will say the scene where the Asian girl is begging Joker to shoot her is equally powerful but in a different way.
