The real question I wanted to ask is why do African Americans hold on so tightly to a religion that wasn't theirs to begin with? Christianity was forced upon them during slavery. Then after being set free, some found Islam but a large amount stayed true to Christianity. The Muslim religion holds many of the same ideologies as Christianity and did not come from the ancestors of the enslaved. the Arabic nations birthed this path. The idea that we are to suffer this life so that we will be rewarded in the afterlife sounds to me like a master trying to keep his subservients under control. This is not hidden knowledge. The information is a google away.

Why in today's age of information do African American still i seek out the religions of their ancestors. Why not practice Santeria, Yoruba, Ifa, Lwa, or de-stigmatize Voo Doo?
