For the earth to alter its direction of rotation instanteaneouslu may well be impossible, because of the fact it would opt for a limiteless quantity of ebergy to realize it. Even for it to take place over a very long era might require a very super deal of capability - a lot greater suitable than humankind can produce. Supposing that some thing of the kind did take place, there may well be devastating effects. The earth has a circumference of around 24,000 miles, and rotates as quickly as in slightly below 24 hours (23h 56m surely). which skill on the equator, the replace of rotation might mean that each thing status on the exterior might unexpectedly locate the exterior shifting westwards relative to it at 2,000 mph - or form of Mach 3, those issues that have been rather properly-related to the exterior may well be bombarded with those much less properly-related, at form of this speed. The seas are no longer properly-atached, so there may well be waves travelling at 2,000 mph or so, inundating vast aspects of what's now land. There may well be vast frictional forces interior the earth, till all of it all started spinning the incorrect way on an identical time. the possibility may well be that fritction interior the earth might reason at suited substantial seismic and volcanic pastime, at worst entire re-melting of the crust. one way or yet another, all existence in the international, different than perhaps some very primitive unicelled organisms, may well be killed off. opposite to what somebody else has suggested, satellites might proceed to orbit - yet geostationary satellites does no longer be geostationary to any extent further. they might bypass over any given element on the equator two times according to day now. Telecommunications may well be a great deal disrupted, and your satellite tv for pc television does no longer artwork. having suggested that, your television may well be long previous, and you'd be ineffective, so in no way concepts.

The earth would spin in the opposite direction.......no it wouldn't turn back time.
Our history would VERY different however.
Wait do you mean what if the earth suddenly started spinning the other direction or what if the earth began to spin in the other direction when it was first created?

well, we wouldn't know, because we would all be dead, in order for it to spin in the opposite direction, it would have to stop spinning in this direction, which would cause a total loss of gravity causing everything on earth to float, and then slam back down in a chaotic mess when the earth got enough spin in the opposite direction to bring everything back to the surface.
