Where do wild hares live?

Hello,

I would like to know if wild hares like to live in a thicket, near woodland, near a lake/river? I don't mind what breed of hare it is (but if you could add that, that would be great), but I would like to know if they do.

Thanks! ~ Blue

(This is **not** for homework. I am writing a novel & need this information)

Update:

OH! & we are talking Canada here. Sorry. =)

Rabbits are native to every continent but Australia and Antarctica. The majority of rabbits are native to North America, Europe and Asia.

They live almost everywhere, including forests, prairies, deserts, and even the tundra. Cottontails are geneally not very strong runners, so they tend to shelter in burrows. Hares are the fastest and strongest runners and they only need to use grass nests or may also shelter in caves or rock crevices.

Well there were wild rabbits running around near my house when I was living in Edmonton, and back then I was living in the suburban part of the city. Don't know if that helps

the Arctic Hare, or Polar Rabbit

They're the same thing. They live in the northernmost parts of Canada.
