My degree was in sociology/psychology, it is SO fun. However, after graduation, I was waiting tables...It's not that you cant get a good job, it's just tricky, and the concern is, will you like it and will it pay bills. Here are somethings you can do with a BA or BS in Psych or Soc. Most of which you'll need experience for as well
Human Resources: "can't we all just get along" Help companies keep track of employee info, as well as deal with employee issues.
Academic adviser (a fun job): help students make decisions and keep them on track and in the right courses etc.
In some states you can be a social worker 1 with a BA or BS, but most you have to have an MA
Of course to be a therapist you need at least an MA with specialization and get licensed. I am doing that now, it takes a while but is the COOLEST ever!
If you have a BA or BS you can enter a teacher's certification program and teach high school psychology. I do so, but taught special needs.
There are agencies that will hire behavioral aids to work with children and families in their homes on behavioral issue, especially big in autism, which is growing.
Working with elderly is about to be a BIG thing and I suspect their will be more jobs opening up for those with BA in Pych. or Soc.
These days any BA or BS is limited, so do what you love, college is not easy, if you're not motivated and interested, it doesn't work out well. Studying Psych is a passion, I LOVE it! Just get some experiences working with people while you're in school, so when you graduate, you can have something on your resume.
