2 is 2/1 so 2/1 X 4/5 = (2 X 4)/(1 X 5) = 8/5

You multiply the tops and put it over the multiplied bottoms.

Any whole number is the same as that number over 1.

2__4 = 8

-- * --__--

1__5 = 5

How many times does 5 go into 8 excluding the remainder? It goes in 1 time. What is the remainder? It is 3. Put the 3 over 5. The answer is

1 3/5

As long as the denominator (bottom number?) is the same for both numbers that are being multiplied you only need to multiply the numerator (top number?) so in this case your answer would be 8/5 - which is top heavy (so i think it would actually turn into 1 and 3/5 although im not 100% on this)

All you do is multiply the numerator by 2.

Therefore the answer would be 8/5.

An easier reply might be that you have 80 cents 4/5s of a dollar, and then you get another 80 cents and you have \$1.60 which is 5/5s of a dollar and 3/5s of a dollar. I've been told by others relating to money with math is easier than grasping the actual concept
