Most "Christian" religions never truly READ their Bibles. What the Bible condemns is drunkenness, due to the loss of self control. Self control is frequently the only true power we have on our own.
Throughout the Bible, that self choice or free will is highlighted as one of the great gifts from God. No other creature on Earth has that ability. The loss of it by throwing it away being drunk, is a slap in God's face. Truly an insult.
But alcohol drinking in moderation, is both pleasurable and healthy as medical studies keep telling us. In Bible times, there was no ability to keep grapes from fermenting. Grape juice is a laughable choice. Mainly this is done to try to prove how pious one is. They believe by denying obvious chemical processes and not touching alcohol, they could prove themselves more pious than the other guys.
This does not ever work in God's eyes as the Bible tells us----if they would ever read it. Really, they are just the ones Jesus referred to as doing powerful works in Jesus' name uselessly. Because they failed to do the one thing necessary. See this at Matthew 7:21-23. “Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. 22 Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ 23 And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew YOU! Get away from me, YOU workers of lawlessness."
What was that thing? "but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will." Only using grape juice and building all kinds of buildings appear to be great works. What is that will? "God, 4 whose will is that all sorts of men should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth." (1 Tim. 2:3-4)
How was this to be done? God gave that answer through Jesus. "19 Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.” (Matt. 28:19-20) Note: " teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU." That is far more important to do than the use of grape juice when wine is necessary.
