It is a categorized lifestyle that some homosexual men live, which in contrary to the stereotypical gay men ("Twinks") that are skinny, hairless, fashionable and feminine, "Gay Bears" tend to be thicker in physique, abundant in facial/ body hair, dressed in rugged or simpler clothing and sometimes aligned to more traditionally masculine forms of employment and hobbies ("lumberjacks," "farmers," "fisherman," "hunters," etc." ).

It's not mean, in gay culture 'bears' are just big, hairy, masculine guys who happen to love cock.
