The mind is like the moon. The moon does not shine, it reflects light from the sun. In just the same way, your mind reflects light from your consciousness. Mind is nothing by itself, it needs to be contacted by the consciousness in order to become active.
Consciousness is like a radar on a submarine, it detects only the things that it believes to be important. It may detect other submarines, but it fails to detect everything in between. Much like how a fish doesn't know it's in the water, because it's surrounded by so much of it.
What you see, hear, touch, taste and smell are the 5 senses that we are conscious of, your everyday experiences are exactly what the 'hidden' or 'secret' is to life. We just program ourselves to believe the secret is to be found, when really, it's the most obvious thing one could see.
Memory is one crucial tool for survival, but little do we know in modern science, is that forgetfulness is just as important. The phenomenon of why we sleep has a very simple answer; to renew our memory, so we can do the same things we did yesterday without feeling like we're repeating it.
To sum up, your mind does not perceive, your mind suppresses perception. The true meaning of 'mind' is to suppress the present, to delay something.
