Politically Greenland is a "dependent country". It is a self-governing overseas administrative division of Denmark, part of the Kingdom of Denmark but separate from Denmark.
Geographically, an ice cap covers over 99% of the huge island. The ice cap is quite flat, sloping toward the coasts. The coasts are mostly barren and rocky. Pasture land covers over 0.6% of the island. There is almost 0% arable land. It's very cold with an Arctic climate in most of the country but the southern coastal areas are somewhat moderated by the Gulf Stream and they have a more mild, cool climate.
The people there are employed in public service, trade, fishing (89% of exports), mining, and a small tourist industry. The economy is very small, as is the population (only about 57,000, the size of a medium-small city elsewhere). The largest city has about 17,000 people. They speak Greenlandic and Danish. 88% are Inuit or Inuit mixed. 12% are European, mostly Danes.
