First off, Chihuahua s are named from where they originated; Chihuahua, Mexico. They are a small dog I agree, but there are also other small dogs that sound like yapping little house shoes. i.e. Pomeranian, shitzu s, and hybrid poodles. I have 4 Chihuahua s ranging from apple heads to tea cup-they were all rescue s from shelter s because people bought them for their cuteness as puppies without being educated on their temperament and stubbornness. Yes, they can be snippy-because they re quite territorial when it comes to their space. However, mine bark when someone knocks and that s it. As soon as I let that person in they re fine. Basically, they re little alarm systems. They re very lovable and love to cuddle and be on your lap. I also have a Labrador retriever and a pit bull.
Chihuahua s are stubborn by nature. Pair that with their size and people tend to spoil them like they re babies so they misbehave like children because they don t know any better. Any dog regardless of size has to be rigorously trained in order to fit in with the rest of your family, which they consider part of their "pack". Without discipline they don t recognize you as the alpha leader and will try to show their dominance by doing whatever they want.
Your opinion is your opinion, but I adore all my dogs big and small and consider them family.
FYI: rats are crazy smart. They can be litter trained, taught to do tricks and respond to your voice. So thank you for comparing one of my favorite dogs to them.
