Right... this is a bug bear of mine. OK, you know your dog is friendly, you know your dog won't harm anybody. Think about it.... how is a total stranger expected to know that? How does a total stranger know that this BIG animal BOUNDING towards them isn't vicious? How are they supposed to know, in the few seconds they are permitted to make a decision, that this big, uncontrolled, possibly aggressive ANIMAL is not going to hurt them? HOW? and then WHY are these people then supposed to politely, without hurting your delicate little feelings, say ''oh please, would you mind ever so much just putting your dog on a lead, please? oh you will?? OH THANK YOU, oh you are SO kind!!'' I love dogs, I have a dog, she is big, she is friendly, but I keep her on a lead, because other people (yes, sweetheart, there ARE other people in the world beside you!) do not know my dog, do not know she is kind and gentle, and therefore, she could be scary.
You are the worst kind of dog owner, completely wrapped up in your own world, with no thought for anyone beside your silly, spoiled self.
