Start when he is still a puppy. Basic command you can teach him is the word "NO". Since you are the boss, insist on that command no matter what. The moment he bites, tap his little snout and say the magic word "NO" with a firm tone in your voice. Do this consecutive number of times. Look him in the eyes and make him realize that "NO" means "NO" so he wont get an idea to repeat it again.
Reflection: the bible says "train up a child in a way he should go, and when he is old he shall not depart from it". That verse also applies in a dog. Basic training starts when he is a puppy, when you are most able to establish a boss and dog relationship.
When he was able to grasp the idea, and followed your command, give him some treats, tap his head gently and don't forget to say "Good boy". He will favorably respond to your command as often as he could because he will understand your language, and he would want to please you every single time.
