The whole idea is crazy. It will be the usual busybodies who apply they will have no powers, but will play the jobsworth a bit like the old codgers with fake speed cameras on the roads who also have no powers. The Border Agency needs proper recruits and ample funding instead of this nonsense.

It's just another way to cut back on spending. We obviously need border patrol people but don't want to spend on border patrol.

There will be two groups who volunteer. The extreme right wing who want to stop everyone from coming in, and the Muslims who want to allow more terrorists in. I can't see this going well.

When Britain went to war with Argentina in 1982 many young British guys turned up to volunteer for the military forces. It appears as so 30 years ago many young British guys were the right sort but I have no idea how many could put down their phones for 5 minutes to do some military training these days.

I actually have no problem with it, in theory, as a lot of people want to defend our borders, but I wouldn't surprised if the volunteers chosen are "diverse", probably including more than a dozen refugees. The Border Force itself is suspiciously "diverse", when I've come back from abroad (through Birmingham Airport) I notice around half the staff are black or Asian, sometimes with foreign accents showing they're immigrants themselves who have naturalised as citizens.

We've had a few cases of immigration fraud because of Nigerians being given UK Border jobs.

Of course it does, but does that mean it should use or employ these people as some kind of unpaid "Dad's Army volunteers" no of course it shouldn't.

Already the British police force has many 'Dad's Army' irregular volunteers. They are called 'Police community support officers (PCSOs)'. We also have large numbers of part time fighter fighters.

The government are looking to expand these to cut costs. This is so the rich can have even more tax cuts.

So, the obvious Tory push for the rich to be richer and the poor, poorer; will lead to more jobs done as volunteers.
