Windows 10 can't update (1709) due to faulty Radeon 7970m Vid Card?

I have a laptop that has a broken 7970m in it, and I have it disabled and have been using the on-board card instead. If it's enabled, the comp freezes. If it's enabled, the comp freezes. Problem is the windows update wants to update all the drivers, and when it gets to 33 percent begins to update graphic drivers, which of course freezes the computer. Any way to get the update installed without it reactivating the faulty video card?
Update: Fixed it by disabling the card from being updated in the group policy editor.
