That is the most stupid thing I have read for ages.
Your dog has no idea why he is not being fed and will not connect it to any bad behaviour.
Unwanted behaviour MUST be corrected AT THE TIME it is shown or within 2-3 seconds for the dog to understand the correction.
What do you mean by "acting out" as dogs do NOT act, they don`t know how to do that.
What sort of unwanted behaviour does you dog regularly show?
No need to use violence to correct a dog.
Voice, water sprays, pebble cans, loud noises, all can be used to distract, all along with a loud stern command at the same time.
The intentions are to make the unwanted behaviour appear unpleasant for the dog, so he thinks twice before doing it again.
Always praise if the dog stops being naughty when told off.
Timing is most important though and its no good if the dog is disobedient and you try and correct him 5 minutes later, it must be done immediately.
Training is the key to unwanted behaviour and it does not happen over night.
Consistency and vigilance and patience (often easier said than done, but essential) are needed for quite a while until the "penny drops" in the dog and it thinks twice about committing to the crimes that you don`t want it to commit.
