Can we completely stop using fossil fuels?

One of these substitutes being so called “Brown’s gas”; something that could completely be an alternative to any fossil fuel. Apparently, it’s been around for thirty plus years, however, the oil industry is a trillion dollar company, that heavily resists change. I would like to hear people’s thoughts on this subject and even on the world’s future use of fossil fuels and how it could possibly change.
