If you are suggesting using the frog tape in place of paper tape and joint compound that is not likely to work well. Frog tape is low tack and only intended to be used for short times. It woud presumably lose adhesion fairly quickly and fall off.

do not use frog tape for the purpose you mention because it will not work and you will end up with a mess, use the proper tape and joint compound for the best results..

You have to use proper drywall tape for the joints, not frog tape or anything else. There are two types of drywall tape, both about 3 inches wide. One is mesh that adheres to the joints, and then you spread the joint compound over, forcing it throush the mesh with your spreader. The other type, which I prefer, is paper tape which is thinner. You fill the gaps between the drywall sheets, apply the tape and flatten with the spreader while the compund is still wet. Allow to dry and do another thin coat about 10inches around the line of the joints.

Sand gently with a drywall sander, which is a mesh you put on a backing holder and attach to a pole if it is a large area.

yes. 'mud' usually covers the entire wall [that's why it comes in 5 gallon buckets]. In part, this helps build fire resistance -- plaster won't burn but the paper covering of drywall will.

joint compound might not stick to frog tape. you need to use drywall tape. any tape you use needs to be covered with drywall mud.

I’ve cheated before, using masking tape, but as it ages, it will break down and release the oils in the adhesive and cause mysterious stains. The wall will hold and look good for a while though. The joint tape, however, is the best option.
