Is Bernie Sanders really a socialist?

Bernie wants the U.S to have more social programs such as universal healthcare and tax paid college tuition. Socialism is when the government controls the production/distribution, not when the government pays for its citizens' stuff.

Does Bernie actually want the government to control the means of production?

No, he's a socialdemocrat.... wants to file off the sharp edges of capitalism instead of abolishing it.

No, socialism is when the means of production are owned by the worker/people, and used to meet the needs of the people - not wasting resources on pointless competition and/or pampering the rich

Bernie wants the United States to be the resurrection of the Soviet Union. I don’t.

He says he is so I have to believe he is but he won't tell his supporters what he really means. He will sell them on the free stuff without telling them about the loss of personal freedom.

No, the Socialist have their own brand and objectives, which are close to Bernie's but with big difference. Bernie is a "Social Democrat", they have such parties in Europe too. He stands for the government working for best interests of middle class, not the 1-per-centers and CEO's of corporations
