Why didn’t they send the freed slaves back to Africa and grant them citizenship?

That’s awfully nice of the 1800’s people to let the freed slaves become citizens (granted, they were still treated horribly)

Why not put them all in a ship and send them to Africa? Did they not have the funds?

Before you call me a racist, i’m black.

And why British Empire did not keep Hongkongese monkeys in the zoo?

Abe Lincoln was actually going to do that but then they reconsidered because it would cost a few million dollars. America would be better if we sent them back though and that's the truth.

Because of the cost to ship them.

  • Actually they did when the creation of the free state of Liberia.

Your phraseology "and" is certainly awkward. Granting citizenship would appear at odds with deporting. But the wealthy Northerners who took and who still take credit for freeing your ancestors didn't really care about them, but rather used their plight as political capital. They actually plundered and sacked the South

Had they actually cared, they'd have given reparations to the freed bondsmen. They never wished to establish a propertied thriving African American community. Still don't and send BILLIONS every year to Pakistan instead. A fair minded president would correct the lingering heritage of poverty in a single generation rather than wage war and low grade genocide on your people. Still waiting on THAT ONE!

They wanted the VOTES as soon as they could get them... The Blacks were granted to vote before the REAL AMERICAN CITIZEN THE AMERICAN NATIVE WAS.

Also there is the fact that MOST DID NOT WANT TO GO BACK TO AFRICA because they got free land and a mule given to them.

They just didnt keep it because they were to lazy to work most of it so most sold it or just moved and let it go. Check Historical facts and you will learn that.

There were numerous efforts to do this beginning in the 1700s; the most successful was the American Colonization Society and the establishment of Liberia, with Monrovia as its capitol; Liberia means Land of the Free and the capitol was named for James Monroe.

The motives behind these projects varied. Some felt that the freed slaves would be a danger, seeking revenge on their former masters. Some despised the blacks and wanted to rid America of their presence. Others had humanitarian intentions, as did, for the most part, the American Colonization Society. There were also efforts to evangelize the African continent and convert them to Christianity. They truly felt that they were saving their souls. Such was the story of Quamino, educated at Princeton in the 1770s with the intention of sending him to Africa as a missionary; instead, he fought in the Continental Navy when the Revolution broke out and was killed in battle.

Many different efforts included a colony in Canada, but the blacks, accustomed to the warm climates of the American South, were miserable and many became ill and died.

Those who were sent to Africa were several generations removed from their African ancestors and they were utterly lost in a strange land and an unfamiliar society.

It is strange to think that some humanitarians who thought slavery was evil opposed emancipation because the freed slaves had limited skills, were often illiterate, and depended on their masters for basic necessities. Others of course were virulent racists who would have preferred the freed slaves be eradicated from society by any means, including shipping them to various islands, or other continents.

The people who took credit for freeing the slaves were not as nice as they pretend to be. History is so written that you will always be able to prove they did it out of Christian love. You can never prove otherwise. But it was jealousy on the part of the Rich Northern Whites for malice and spite despoiling the Rich Southern Whites. But don't bother to look for such secret truth for the evidence is gone with the wind. You would only find it in the nasty mistreatment by our kind Christian liberators after we showed up in PERSON up north. Their heirs to this day won't pay for poor ghetto children to break the poverty cycle in a single generation at Groton and Harvard. The elite keep those schools largely for those with the money to afford them

Billions for bloody treacherous Pakistan, billions of dollars worth of corrugated fencing for the Mexicans to steal to make roofs with, but the US Government is too cheap to take care of its vets or its slaves.

There's this new thing, they call it a "history book". You can learn about freed slaves who did return to Africa, they started their own country and everything. You'll learn about the Panama Plan. You'll learn about the Irish Riots in New York City. You'll learn a lot about the post Civil War era.

They did that. It's called Liberia, it's capital is Monrovia name after President Monroe. Check out the Liberian flag, it looks a lot like the American flag for a reason. [] They speak "Liberian English."
