Dealship wants to charge a fortune for window tiniting?

I just brough a 7 month old car from Nissan in Aust and it needs to have window tintig applied. They have said they can do it for nearly $600 but if I do it aftermarket I can get it done for nearly $400. The catch is though, Nissan have told me if I do aftermarket it will void my warrenty for the electronics part of the car. Coz it has electric windows and airbags in the doors and other electronics it will void the 2 year manufactor warrenty the vehicle still has. Do I pay the huge amount or get it done elsewhere and void the electronics warrenty. They are making it sound like if any part of the electronics in the car breaks down, Im on my own.

Nope. You've been lied to. Whoever told you the work has to be done at the dealership is a god dammed liar and they know it.

Manufacturer's warranties don't say the work can only be done by their dealers. They say the work has to be done by an accredited professional, if applicable, but it doesn't have to be the dealership. That isn't just a myth, it's an outright lie.

And there isn't a whole lot of accreditation involved for auto glass tinting. As long as the work is done by a glass shop, your warranty is fine. The only way to partially void your warranty would be if you had your cousin's buddy do it in his driveway for a case of beer.

You don't have to spend a fortune for tinted windows, My guy charges $50 for each window, plus here in California you can not have the driver window or your passenger's window sitting next to you... tinted, only the ones behind you, or you will get a ticket, but the back one yes, you can as well. I don't know about other states. there are some really great places, check out with friends and by the way I went to swap meet, but I known this guy for a long time and he does a good job. Also don't tell those people at Nissan what your doing, it's your car, you can do what ever you want with your car, I don't believe what they told you at all.

You have a choice. Pay less and lose your warranty or pay a little more now and save big time later.

It is the weakest LIE I have heard. It does not affect power windows. It is a thin FILM. It may get scratched up when the window goes up and down but that is damage to the film.

It does not NEED TO HAVE WINDOW TINT. That is the latest craze and it is dying out. Especially if you do a lot of night driving then seeing out the fricking window is kind of important.

Dark Sunglasses is a Cheap disguise(and works the same as tint)

Read your warranty! If they say it, it should be in writing! If it doesnt then have it done yourself. Tinting windows isnt very hard to do.

You are a dufus for believing that window tinting voids your warranty.

    That's total BS

A window tint costs around $250 in Aus depending on what car you have. The dealer is ripping you off. They just send the car out to their preferred tinting place who they have contracted to do the work. There is nothing "special" about the tint. If you are in WA I can recommend a good place, does all mine - personal as well as around 200 customer cars - and I've never had a problem.

Don't be foolish. Either pay the dealer or don't do it. If you had been a clever buyer, you would have negotiated window tinting as part of the deal or no sale.
