Once a movie leaves Netflix, is it gone forever or will ever return?

    No, some movies return.

    I'll usually be gone forever. because it means the licence has expired and Netflix saw no benefit in renewing it.

    That depends upon the studio that owns the rights. In several cases movies and TV shows have returned with new contracts, but it doesn't always happen. It may be that Netflix isn't interested in reacquiring properties that weren't good performers before.

    I've seen Netflix remove a movie, then two years later it was back. Might have something to do with people asking after a certain title or something.

    It goes into the state of Limbo. Where it will be featured rarely, but never can it die completely.
