you put a hose on the water intake, if it is an outboard you can get a fitting your hose fits onto

Is it an Air Cooled Engine? Use an electric fan.
If a water-cooled outboard, put screw and lower end in garbage can fulla Fresh water.
If a water cooled V8 inboard; need hoses to inlet/outlet to a can of water. Most use the closed system like a car anyway, and only maybe need an electric fan on radiator. Some already have a fan that switches on on heat.

You need the special tool that clamps over the water intake and attaches to a garden hose. If you try running the motor without water the water pump impeller will be ruined with in a few seconds.

Plug a hose into the water inlet and run water through the block when the engine is running.
Pro Tip: Boats work best when in the water.

Immerse it in a big trash can full of water.

We used a clamp that you could buy to fit over the water intakes, hook a garden hose to it do you could run water through it and run the engine.
Many inboards have internal cooling system from the car they came out of. These only need a fan on radiator OR radiator has a fan.

Make sure not to overuse and definitely make sure the metal casing has plenty of holes/slits for ventilation
Its the Seal, Not the impeller.
