Why aren't we using "all of them" alternative energy sources - wind, solar, etc. renewable energy - to replace coal? We only have one planet?

Because the people running the white house currently feel that they can enrich themselves by relying on fossil fuels for as long as possible despite the horrific damage that causes.

You are wrong, and the question is based on a false premise. "we" ARE using all forms of renewable energy in our energy grid.

    The simple, one-word answer:

    G R E E D

Too many people are making too much money on fossil fuels to give it up. Even politicians are greasing their palms to secretly block alternative energy sources from taking hold. There is MAJOR money in oil and gas and a huge tax revenues from electric companies. Why would those people cut off their own wealth? They won't and will continue giving cash kickbacks to those in power in order to keep us hostage to their products.

Heck, solar energy is nothing consisting of new science/technology or expensive components, but the prices are outrageous to discourage us from following through. Smart car technology is not rocket science, but those cars cost a lot of money. Keeping alternative energy costs high allows complacency with oil, gas and electricity consumption.

The GOP planet destroyers are unaware this planet has a soul and is now rebelling against their assaults on it. The Native Americans were aware that everything in nature was imbued with the Great Spirit. They revered and respected the earth mother

Notice Bernie S. points to scandinavian socialist countries as examples of his intentions. He doesnt tell you they have much higher personal taxes and lower corp taxes. They all know who winds up paying anyway.

Because in many cases they can't replace coal. None are reliable enough to be base generation.

We have tried and tried and tried. The results are that either the energy rates went sky high or the utility went bankrupt. Germany tried it and lost a lot of production due to brownouts.

The eco-nuts have virtually chased away nuclear energy. They are now attempting to do away with hydroelectric dams.

I lived out in California 40 years ago. They built windmills. They broke down and now are useless, just eyesores on the horizon. They tried it again in another location and it too is now just rubble. Those I had first hand knowledge of. Others I just heard of but it was the same story. A friend of mine has a relative who worked on windmills for Iowa Public Service. He now has a desk job due to IPS shutting down the project.

I have heard of many claims of this country's or that country's success but that is just what the were. Just claims with no substance.

The truth of the matter is that the powers that be don't want reasonable energy. Take a look at this:

Quote by Paul Ehrlich, professor, Stanford University: “Giving society cheap, abundant energy would be the equivalent of giving an idiot child a machine gun.”

Quote by Jeremy Rifkin, Greenhouse Crisis Foundation: “The prospect of cheap fusion energy is the worst thing that could happen to the planet.”

As long as you have nitwits like this influencing our world decisions, you won't get anywhere with reasonable 'alternative' sources.

Yes, we only have one planet and it is a good one. It is clear to all, if you really looked, who really is attempting to destroy it.

I posted a chart showing energy costs. The more green countries ALL had higher costs than normal ones. US was at the bottom of the list.

I would think that coal has value other than as a fuel.Like to make coal tar products like lipstick.

Yes, the Trumpstourette still likes to make up?

They all have drawbacks. Solar only works when the sun is shining. Wind is intermittent. Many alternatives are still much more expensive than conventional methods of generating electricity. The is no good alternative to fossil fuels to power cars, trucks, and airplanes.

i know, also hydrogen. they fight battery, solar and wind. changing fuel is still dependence on them.
