Can i board a plane with a DSLR camera around my neck?

It won't fit in my personal item bag.

    Normally in the USA, you can cary your camera into your passenger cabin. However at the pre-boarding inspection station, they will want proof it is not dangerous.

    Once through security you can carry it anyway you want to.

    Shouldn't be a problem. Most airlines allow a carry-on and a personal bag. Check with your airline about carry-on rules. It should be on their web site.
