I think I forgot to use detergent today. I washed with cold water and ran the clothes through the dryer. Will that be enough?

    Probably ok.

There is some residual soap in the clothes and clothes washer. Besides, water is a great solvent for most things!

Not if your clothes were really dirty. On the other hand, most people use far too much detergent in their laundry.

it's probably fine for one time. 90 percent of the effect is done simply by agitating the clothes in water over the ten minute wash cycle.

We wash clothing too much. Unless you are rolling in the mud or sweat like a pig, you should be able to air out clothing and wear it 3-4 times before it needs washing. Consider your clothing good to go and just wear it.
