happiness in life is often the compromise between, the desire for the highest success in obtaining happiness, and wretchedly having no happiness and are suffering. for instance, it is OK to strive for the highest ideals, and it is better to accept the success you have created for yourself through your own efforts; then it is to complain and to blame others for the failure to achieve your own success in life.

i do have all that i "need", even though i may not have everything that i could "want"; there is a difference between "need" and "want".

i think it may have something to do with sigmund freud's understanding of the ego as consciousness, with both the libido and superego, portrayed as desire and ideal fulfillment. what we see, is what we get, according to our own abilities.

You must not waste your lifetime by trying for something you cannot get. All creatures including human beings are ruled by spirits. Spirits determine the destiny of the human beings from their daily activities, talks and thoughts too. If they determine that you have to get which you cannot even dream of, you will get. A man must try and work for everything he needs, then only his spirits can work for him. But when he tries and works for something he cannot get, it is difficult to achieve. It might have happened somewhere to someone. It's a rare phenomenon. But this is not possible to all.

Well, the first thing is to evaluate, as objectively as possible, and with the counsel of others, whether or not the thing you want truly is or is not attainable. You might also explore why you want it so badly. Then, if you determine that it is attainable, you have to figure out what it will cost in time, effort, and money, and if it's worth it to you. If so, then set off on the journey. If not, or if you determine it is not attainable, then you have to abandon it, mourn the loss, and move on. I think most of us have a few items in that category that we miss all our lives. But too, the memories fade in time.

We simply need to be wise enough to realize what we can not have under any circumstances and therefore stop our yearning for the same..... if this wisdom or self-control is missing even after all reasonable attempts, then we would keep trying without any positive result and end up ruing and getting depressed.

  • If it's physically possible, then you should use the law of attraction. Feel as if you already have it and it will be manifested. Let's say you want a gf or bf. Now imagine what the person is like and feel how you would feel if you were together. Just like that. I've done it many times and it works. Sometimes it takes days, sometimes months but you will attract it eventually if you're patient.

If you're referring to sex, hire an escort. If you're too young for that, you'll have to wait. If it's a gf/bf you want, go and find one. If it's something materialistic, save for it. If it is entirely out of your reach, accept it and get on with your life.
