Dna test? Using a mother’s dna?
Hi, this is a question that I hate to ask but have to find out the truth. My friend has a baby and knows that the dad who wants a DNA test isn’t the dad. Now the normal thing to do would be to tell the truth but he wants to do a test and has ordered one through the post. She’s thinking about swabbing her own mouth as she reckons because obviously she’s his mum that this will come back showing this, so then she can make out that he is the dad if this makes sense? Would this even work? Surely the two peoples dna are different?

I'm not sure what you are asking, but the baby will have 23 chromosomes of the biological father and 23 chromosomes plus the mitochondrial DNA of the mother.
If the lab compares the DNA of the suspected father to that of the mother, they will conclude that he is not the father.

That will not work. Female DNA is basically different from male DNA. For one thing, females don't have the Y gene, and males always have it. For another thing, isn't the man here going to swab his own spit, and mail off his own sample? He's a fool if he allows the mom to handle the sample or mail it off, just because she could do the switch trick.

Yes they are different and the test will show that. Tell your friend to pull her head in and come out with the truth because the kid won't look like the guy later in life anyway and he already knows it's not his kid. That's why he's getting the test done, to confirm.

No it won't work. The baby will of course have mother's DNA, but will also have the father's DNA, and that won't match the suspicious father's DNA. Watch out for the fireworks when the results come out.

He's a fool to trust that this woman will swab the baby.
