What made Dred Scott a civil rights leader?

    Dred Scott was a slave. He became owned by a man who opposed slavery. Between them they cooked up a plan whereby Scott would sue for his freedom because he had been briefly taken into a free state. SCOTUS ruled he had no rights, including not the right to sue, thus assuring the Civil War
