Yep, i could be wrong but it sounds to me that whoever told you that is on your side, btw in most situations and nations that's an illegal pracitce, if you find out it is, you could get someone to blackmail this inscrupulous employer, he could even by put in jail for that practise, they are clearly taking advantage of cheap labour, which probably isn't even going in the books, because they are likely employing you illegally, and paying you a fraction of what they should be.....

Unfortunately in most jobs where not a lot of skills are required and have on the job training generally do hire younger people because it is in fact cheaper.
Your job will be what you make it. Keep your mind open, get to know your company and your coworkers, learn as much as you can while you are working. As a former Personnel staffer, I can tell you that employers like a worker to be dependable, so be on time and have good attendance.
Do not worry so much about what others might say---a person might be envious or a control-freak type who thrives on undermining someone else s confidence and successes to bolster a low self-esteem for their own self. Believe in what you do and who you are, and you will probably be promoted in a relatively short time.
