NEVER surprise anyone with a LIVE pet. This should be taken very seriously. Just take the person to meet the horse and see the reaction. They may not like what you have picked out.

Unless this is your young child, you don't "surprise" anyone with a horse, or indeed any living creature they must care for. It is important for a rider to choose their own horse, that suits their skill level and personal preferences, and for them to be fully aware of and prepared for the huge commitment of time and money that a horse requires. What you think is a great horse for someone might not be at all what they had in mind for themselves!

That would mean you’re boarding off grounds. Simply take the person first thing in the morning on a “special trip”- if it’s a kid that already takes lessons at the place you’re boarding, tell them you scheduled a session- and then simply surprise them when you get there.

If it’s an adult or someone who doesn’t take lessons, just blindfold them on the way to the barn and stall, where the horse can be sitting with a bow on the halter and a sign on the stall door.

YouTube has a few of these.

Any animal is a bad 'suprise' gift.

I'd say lead it into the person's bedroom in the middle of the night and then slam the door behind it.

No barn? It's going to live IN your house? Little unfair to the horse?

    Fascinating.
