If you provided the laptop's name and model, we could accurately assist you. Some laptops have an easy to remove cover underneath, others may have two covers, some have a sliding cover. Some laptops require opening and lifting the inner cover, disconnecting the keyboard and track pad. Others don't allow opening without damaging the seals in the process. There are a few that don't have upgrade-able or removable HDD's as they're attached or soldered to the mainboard.

Provide the laptop make and model and we can assist you better. Otherwise your question is much like the one of, how long is a piece of string?

On the bottom of the laptop you should see a door with at least one screw holding it in. Unscrew it and pop door open. There you will find the hard drive.

Do you not think that it would be a good idea to give the make and model of your laptop. We could give an answer then.

Inside somewhere, more often under the keyboard than the trackpad zone. They need to fit a lot of different parts in there, all flat, so each manufacturer comes up with their own design that balances battery space, CD/DVD space, ports, air flow, access for parts upgrades, etc.
