Remember the good ol' days when we used to chat with Live Messenger and its emoticons? Is there a way to do smth similar with a smartphone?

I mean, when I'm writing a text (Viber or SMS) I want to enter a shortcut and make a custom emoticon pop up. Example, type "evilsmile22" and a custom emoticon (gif or png stored in my Android) shows up. Thanks in advance.

iOS has a system like that in place to do that, though you are limited to existing emoji (as far as non-text replacements are concerned). So I'd imagine Android would have something similar.

Don't think there is a way to get exactly what you are asking for though.
