Are sadness, fear, anger, love (addiction), joy(pleasure), peace (tranquility), pain(suffering/torment) the only base emotions?

Update:

I believe "confusion" is bipartisan of peace/tranquility.

You could say pleasure and pain are the only base emotions. Apathy would be an absence of pleasure or pain, and not an emotion itself. Then all other emotions are variations or mixtures of the two base emotions. Tranquility could be a little pleasure and an absence of pain. Love is a bit fear of being alone/apart, bit of pleasure in someone's company. Some people get some pleasure from pain and suffering (either themselves or in others). Some people get pleasure from fear, and you have excitement of adventure. The thrill some get from a roller coaster may be the same thing as those who are just terrified, but expressed in a different way.

In which case K should get a higher or lower rating in lieu of that expressed-in-a-different way.

Well there are 6 base emotions: Happiness, Sadness, Surprise, Fear, Anger, Surprise. and all emotions can be constructed by combining these base emotions. So yes there are more (disgust & surprise) but also less, since there are only 6.

No emotion is an offshoot of another except by way of trying to describe it. Otherwise everything you feel is an emotion that exists because it must.

Why are you asking psychology questions in philosophy?

    • A so-called bad emotion is anger, yet if a person is oppressed, it is anger they drives them to freedom.
