CPA Firm Shadiness?

A cpa firm is severely under-staffed in the lower-level employee rank. Management has decided to fill these positions with part-time staff compromised mostly of bored housewives who just want to have an income but have no intention of achieving their cpa license. Why?

Part Time workers allow for more employees.

Where Overtime (OT) is concerned, they work only 20 hours of the 40 hour work week.

Since OT must be paid for anyone working beyond 40 hours in a single week. Should a worker call out a Part Timer (PT) can be held over or called in without breaking OT hours.

    A great savings in Labour.

Your thought process would be correct except that all auditors are salaried. There is no payment of over-time.

Cost? That is obviously one reason they would do this.

How so? It is a far greater cost to not invest properly in staff. Why fill your ranks with part-time people who are not invested in their work and will never become licensed?
