My parents married when my mom was 16 and pregnant (back in the mid 1950's). My mother proceeded to have one child after the other. She gave birth to her SIXTH child two days before she turned 25. Yes, you read that right.
When I was 17, I brought a new friend home from school. When we got to my house, we found my parents making out on the couch, my mom was on my father's lap, facing him, kissing. I was so freaking humiliated and embarrassed. We had a quick introduction and up to my room my friend and I went. I apologized for my parent's behavior and my friend said she thought it was cool that my parents still loved one another because her parents threw dishes at one another!! OMG, I never even heard my parents arguing.
Years passed and I thought...hey, my mom was 36 years old back when that happened. It really was not so horrible after all.
My point is that I THOUGHT I was embarrassed that my parents were so YOUNG. Then, I realized that was a ridiculous thought.
No one cares if your parents are older, just like no one cared that my parents were younger.
