    Comic book:

Superman: 1938 (Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster)

Batman: 1939 (Bob Kane and Bill Finger)

As for Radio, "Batman" shows were used for when the "Superman" cast were on vacation.

    Superman, officially.

Wes Roland's The Bat came out in 1926, and that was one inspiration for the character Batman, which was also inspired by several characters, like: The Scarlet Pimpernel (1905), Zorro (1919), the Shadow (1931), Dick Tracy (1931), Sherlock Holmes (1887) ..... both the Scarlet Pimpernel and Zorro were wealthy aristocrats that put off public personas as being arrogant...etc.. to really throw people off considering them as viable candidates as the masked vigilantes that they were. Both Zorro and the Scarlet Pimpernel were concerned about the people, the citizens and used their intellect and skills to take on a self-sacrifical mission, dedicating their lives to helping the people.

I see Superman as more of a knock-off of Jesus, mixed with science fiction. And plenty of Hollywood writers note that connection too.

Like Jesus, the Clark/Superman character had a purity and innocence in his nature. Jesus said He was not of this world, that He was from heaven above. Even the scene where Superman was resurrected is certainly nothing new.
