Wages rise when employers aren't finding enough workers and have to raise wages to lure them to that specific company. Other companies follow suit. The increased cost is offset by either increased sales, prices, or capital expenditures which raise worker productivity. That's how wages rise in a healthy economy.

Wages were stagnant for a couple reasons. For one, labor cost rises were happening, but they were being swamped by benefit cost rises, most notably in healthcare. But for another, we had lingering high unemployment and low labor participation following the 2007 crisis. But also, capital was largely sitting out the economy. Bad policies scared businesses into not knowing how to invest going forward, so they tended to use profits to pay down debt or pay dividends to shareholders instead of reinvesting in their firms. Less capital investment means less productivity rise which means it's harder to justify hiring more people.

Donald Trump is fulfilling another of his promises. It really triggers Democrats who know Obama worked so hard against this kind of thing.

Obama's policiers are finally taking full affect. Trump will claim credit, of course. But it's all Obama
