What is a solution to my tree problem?

I need help with my peach tree since at the trunk of the tree there is rot developing or an animal is attacking it. It seems to have a reddish ooze coming out of it and the area is dark. Help....

If your tree is fairly young [7 or 8 years], and producing well, it is worth saving. Fill the wounded area with contact cement, and wrap the trunk loosely with chicken wire.

I would suggest taking pictures of it and taking it to a nursery. They may be better able to tell you. If you need something to treat it you will need to know what specifically that treatment is and buy it anyway. The one thing that comes to mind to me is where you have dirt or mulch too high at the base of the tree. I know that that can affect the health of any tree. Exactly how I'm not certain. Sorry.

I guess it might help. But I won't be able to even if I see it.
