Did my therapist violate HIPAA privacy laws?

During my last appointment, my therapist compared my situation to that of another client.

She didn't give names, but described the person as being blind with a blind spouse and who was expecting a baby and having anxiety about how to care for an infant while visually impaired.

Isn't that a violation of privacy laws?

    Maybe. Depends on details.

    No, they did not.

She could have made it all up. Kind of like showing you that your problems are not as bad as theirs.

If she didn't give a name, then how could she have violated someone's privacy?

No. Also he could have been making up the "other client"

No. She did not give any personally identifiable information, and for all you know she made it up to make you feel better.
