Why did Germany want poor Eastern Europe countries like Romania in the EU with the same currency?

    Because they knew they would easily be able to control and colonise them. The EU is heading for federal union.

    They like to be united. Each country is so small, that it's more convenient to

    have a standardized monetary unit.

    The overarching goal of the EU is to defend Europe from larger powers such as Russia, China or the USA and that means investment in the poorer regions.

    The overarching goal of brexiters is to feed Europe to the wolves and enslave us all.

    They didn't really, but it was the way of getting them away from the Soviet Sphere of Influence. For many people that is where the wheel came off - when the EU was no longer an economic union, but a political one. (For some allowing Greece in was the beginning of the end.)

    The EU used to be called the EEU, European Economic Union that made trade and worker movement between countries easier to do business. But, in 93 it was changed to the EU and was given, or took, more power over members regarding matters other than trade.
